Effort aims to help address national shortage by transforming 420 lives at blood drives in communities Perfect Union serves throughout California
AUGUST 8, 2021
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Perfect Union, one of California’s most-respected cannabis retail operators, held a blood drive on August 3 at their Northside Sacramento dispensary (1508 El Camino Ave.) as part of a larger campaign to transform 420 lives in communities they serve by the end of the year.
The blood drive also helped address a nationwide blood shortage, common in the summer months, and exacerbated by COVID-19 and a recent uptick in emergency room visits. Fifty-seven lives were saved, and the company recently held similar events in Sacramento (May 21, 2021) with 54 lives transformed and Marysville (June 18, 2021) with 60 lives.
“Keeping the communities we serve healthy and thriving will always be a cornerstone of our mission, and these blood donations are literally life and death for so many,” said Perfect Union CEO David Spradlin. “Someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds, and with a limited shelf life and current shortage throughout California, we can donate to save the lives of our friends, family and neighbors.”
The cannabis retailer partnered with Vitalant, which is the nation’s largest independent, nonprofit blood services provider that serves approximately 900 hospitals across the nation.
“Many people believe that blood is needed most after major disasters, but daily emergencies and ongoing medical needs require a constant and ready blood supply,” said Vitalant’s Communications Manager Victoria Wolfe. “Perfect Union’s community leadership to encourage lifesaving blood donations during the summer, an especially challenging time for blood collection, is appreciated.”
